PETER LOW is a Senior Fellow at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch (New Zealand) and his fields of research are Translation Theory and French Poetry and Song. Both as a translator and as an academic researcher, he is one of the leading specialists in song translation. Faced with the challenge of producing singable translations, and based on his own background as a lecturer of French at the University of Canterbury and as a trained pianist, he devised an original method which he calls the “Pentathlon Principle”. He has published widely about translation matters, notably with the book Translating Song (Routledge 2017). 

ALBERTO MIRA is a professor of Film Studies at Oxford Brookes University, where he teaches classes on Film Styles and Film Stardom. He has translated several essays into Spanish and edited Oscar Wilde's letters for Alba Editorial. He has also published editions of The Importance of Being Earnest and Lady Windermere's Fan by Oscar Wilde, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee for Cátedra. Among his numerous publications are the essays De Sodoma a Chueca and Miradas insumisas, as well as a large number of articles in academic and popular magazines about Pedro Almodóvar, Eloy de la Iglesia, Eduardo Mendicutti, Jane Fonda, Mario Casas, and others. He is the author of the Historical Dictionary of Spanish Cinema published by Scarecrow Press. His most recent publications include The Pop Musical: Sweat, Tears and Tarnished Utopias and Entre la cámara y la carne. El cine homoerótico en 25 películas. He will soon publish El teatro musical de Stephen Sondheim.

ANNA DEENY MORALES is a Latiné librettist, translator, and literary critic. Her works in opera have been supported by the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, among others. Recent original works include Las Místicas de México, an immersive opera that debuts this year with the IN Series at Dupont Circle Underground.

Deeny Morales has translated poetic works by Raúl Zurita, Nicanor Parra, and Alejandra Pizarnik, among others, and was the Academy of American Poets Judge for the 2023 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. She is formally trained as a pianist, studied theater at the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica in Rome, and has a PhD in Hispanic Languages and Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a Center for Latin American Studies Fellow in the Humanities at Georgetown University. 

KEVIN SCHROEDER is one of the most successful new German musical authors. The world premiere of Lotte was nominated for the German Musical Theatre Award in seven categories in 2015, including Best Book and Best Lyrics. In 2017, he was honoured by the Academy for Best Lyrics for Mehr ‒ Vom Fischer und seiner Frau, and in 2018 Fack ju Göhte won the award for Best Musical. Die Tagebücher von Adam und Eva (The Diaries of Adam and Eve), based on texts by Mark Twain, have been seen throughout the German-speaking world since their premiere at Berlin’s Admiralspalast in 2012. 2022 saw the world premiere of Robin Hood, which was created together with Dennis Martin and Chris De Burgh. He was also involved as a songwriter in the Swiss musical Dällebach Kari and the revues Show Me and The One at the Friedrichstadt Palast Berlin.

He is also one of the most renowned translators for English-language musicals. His translation of Hamilton, together with the Berlin songwriter Sera Finale, was called a masterpiece by the New York Times. He wrote the German lyrics for numerous English-language musicals such as Disney’s Frozen, Gershwin’s Crazy for You, Kinky Boots or the Stage Entertainment production of Chicago as well as book and song lyrics for 9 to 5, The Count of Monte Cristo, Chess and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Together with Heiko Wohlgemuth he wrote the German lyrics for Disney’s Aladdin, Sister Act and Legally Blonde as well as the translation of the book and song lyrics for Shrek ‒ The Musical and the Salzburg premiere of The Sound of Music. He is also one of the founders of schreib:maschine, the only open stage for new German-language musicals, and is committed to the further development of the genre as part of the German-language cultural landscape.

ANDREU GALLÉN trained as a musician and pianist at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, the Aula de música of the University of Alcalá de Henares, and the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. He composed the songs for Dagoll Dagom's recent hit L'alegria que passa, for which he won the Butaca Award 2023 and the Barcelona Critics' Award 2023 for Best Original Music, as well as a nomination for the Talía Award 2024. Throughout his extensive career, he has served as musical director for Sweeney Todd in concert (Palau de la Música Catalana, 2023), Chicago, L'alegria que passa, Singing in the Rain, La cuina de Rossini, La Cage aux Folles, T'estimo si he begut (a project for which he also composed the music), and many more.

MARÍA OVELAR is the author of the lyrics for the original series David el Gnomo and La llamada de los Gnomos. She has adapted the Spanish version of the songs for numerous films and series for Disney, Fox, Warner, and other production companies, including The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, The Phantom of the Opera... She has also directed and sung in numerous productions such as LazyTown, Barbie, The Fox and the Hound 2...

She has been a member of the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar, Lovy, and El diluvio que viene. She has recorded jingles, background vocals for albums, movies, TV, festivals... Besides composing and adapting songs for numerous artists, she has also performed in country and rock bands. At present, she teaches song dubbing and musical adaptation at Escuela de Doblaje de Canciones.

RAÚL GALOPPE is a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Latino Studies at Montclair State University in the U.S. His research interests include theater of the Spanish Golden Age and the translation of musicals for Spanish-speaking audiences. He teaches courses on theater, film, and audiovisual translation. As author or editor, he published Género y confusión en el teatro de Tirso de Molina (Pliegos, 2000), Explorations in Subjectivity, Borders, and Demarcation: A Fine Line, with Richard Weiner (UP of America, 2005), A Stubborn Ghost: Essays in Honor of Henry W. Sullivan (Peter Lang, 2023), and many academic articles. As a playwright, he wrote and directed three musical plays: Decadencia divina (1983), Con el pie derecho (1986), Este soy yo (2023), all presented in Argentina. He also translated Becoming Dr. Ruth, a play by Mark St. Germain. He is currently working on three projects: Gustavo con V corta, C’est Magnifique, and the translation of She Loves Me, the musical with book by Joe Masteroff, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.

ALBERT MAS-GRIERA is a writer, scriptwriter and song adaptor. Graduated in Philology and Psychology, he is the author of the novel Escrit als estels, as well as of La ciutat dels àngels, a collection of stories. He adapted into Spanish, for the productions directed by Ricard Reguant, the songs from the musicals Chicago, West Side Story and Grease, and into Catalan, Blood Brothers, Blues in the Night, Memory... For Disney, he adapted into Spanish the lyrics of The Lion King, Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast 2, and into Catalan the lyrics of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan... He also adapted the songs for the film Anastasia into Spanish and Catalan, and for the theatrical productions of Mamma Mia!, Les Misérables, and Victor/Victoria, produced by Stage Entertainment.

MARC GÓMEZ DOMÈNECH is a song adaptor for dubbing and musical theater. Among his most recent works are the Catalan adaptation of the songs from Disney's Wish, the Spanish version of The Producers recently premiered in Barcelona, and Legally Blonde, the latter in collaboration with Daniel Anglès.

He is also a dubbing actor and musical theater actor: he has performed the role of Zazu in Disney's production of The Lion King (Madrid) and is currently a member of the cast of The Producers.

DANIEL SOTO holds a PhD in Translation and Interpreting from the Universidad de Málaga and the Université de Montréal, with his thesis titled Reception and Songs in the Translation of Musicals in Spain (2001-2021): A Descriptive and Functional Approach, which he defended in 2022.

In his thesis, he applies a descriptive-queer and functional-multimodal analysis model which updates the panorama of the reception of musicals in Spain and which also reinforces the hypothesis that musical translation is in most cases a form of translation-recreation.

He works as a translator-transcreator of web and audiovisual content, editing, marketing, board games and, mainly, video games, since 2014.

He has dedicated a part of his publications in journals or collective works to applied translation studies in song translation, the didactics of singable translation, and, mostly, the descriptive-functional analysis of the translation of musicals.

ÁNGEL FERNÁNDEZ SEBASTIÁN is an audiovisual translator and song adaptor. He has translated the scripts of films such as American Beauty, The Sixth Sense, X-Men, Pearl Harbor, Mulan... He has also written the Spanish version of songs for films like Cinderella, A Goofy Movie, Winnie the Pooh, as well as for many television series (The Muppet Show, DuckTales...).

MARCELO KOTLIAR has won six Hugo Awards, and he has translated and adapted the book and lyrics for the Argentinian productions of Heathers, Come from Away, The Who's Tommy, Falsettos, Blood Brothers, Murder for Two, Hereafter, Murder Ballad, The Rocky Horror Show, Thrill Me, Bare, First Date, Into the Woods, Ghost, Shrek, Company, Mamma Mia!...

ROSER BATALLA graduated in Interpretation from the ITB, and in 1987 she debuted as Yum-Yum in Dagoll Dagom's El Mikado. Since then, she has taken part in more than thirty productions - both musical and text theatre- directed by Sergi Belbel, Raül Contel, Mario Gas, Alícia Gorina, Josep Ma Miró, Sílvia Sanfeliu, Israel Solà, Claudio Tolcachir and Nelson Valente, among others. She has worked in television, film, dubbing, audiobook presentation, teaching, stage direction and, above all, translation and adaptation of text and musical theatre: she wrote the Catalan version of Sweeney Todd with Roger Peña, and for this work they received the 1995 Special Critic's Award and the 1996 FAD Prize. She has also received an award as Supporting Actress (AADPC- 1992) for Snoopy! The Musical; and the monologue Un ratolí, un gat , un canari i una boa dins l’armari by Rena Llucot earned her the Special Menció of the Critique 1993. She has been nominated as a supporting actress for El mètode Grönholm, No son maneres de matar a una dona (musical) and El principi d'Arquimedes at Premis Butaca-2003, 2004 and 2014 respectively. In 2021 she was awarded the Margarida Xirgu Memorial Award, for her professional career, owing to the monologue L’empaperat groc, directed by Xavier Quero and Frank Capdet. At present, she continues to perform in Le congrés ne marche pas, by La Calòrica, and she is working in the translation of the lyrics of Gypsy, for Teatro del Soho, for which she has also translated A Chorus Line, Company and Godspell.

AUDREY CANALÈS is an assistant professor in audiovisual translation at Université de Sherbrooke, Canada. Her multidisciplinary background in information technologies, visual arts and translation studies has drawn her to study textual transformations that transcend interlinguistic relations. Her current research focuses on representations in translation. She is a researcher at the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur les humanités numériques (CRIHN), she is the President of the Canadian Association for Translation Studies, and she is a member of the editorial comittee of the journal TTR: Traduction, terminologie, rédaction.

EDUARDO GUTIÉRREZ is a dubbing director and actor, as well as a theatre director and voice artist. Recently, he has directed and adapted the dubbing for the Oscar-winning film The Boy and the Heron and the TV series Ted. Other iconic works include American Beauty, Finding Nemo, the Harry Potter saga, The Sixth Sense, Dexter, Family Guy and Falling Skies. He is the regular voice for Seth MacFarlane, Ewen Bremner, Tony Danza, and characters like Stewie in Family Guy. He won the SIGNO Award for his professional career in 2008 and the ATRAE Award for best adaptation in 2015.

DANIEL ANGLÈS is a musical theatre director, actor, singer and song adaptor. He has directed in Barcelona the productions of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which premiered in the Festival de Teatro de Mérida, Rent (winner of four BroadwayWorld awards and a Premio de Teatro Musical), Fun Home, Bare, Hair... He has also supervised the casting of many large-scale musicals.

He is the singing voice of Quasimodo in the Catalan version of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and of Miguel in the Spanish and Catalan versions of Dreamworks' The Road to El Dorado.

ANNA MACH is currently working on her Ph.D. in translation studies, about the translations of The Tiger Lillies’ songs into Polish. She holds degrees in applied linguistics (University of Warsaw) and in law (Jagiellonian University). Her main field of academic interest is music-linked translation, with a particular focus on alternative genres, such as punk cabaret, and on the role of a song translator as a cultural mediator. As she is a song translator herself, she combines theoretical research with translational practice.

BELÉN CRUZ-DURÁN is a researcher from Seville (Spain). She studied a bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting at Pablo de Olavide University (Seville), she got her PhD at University of Málaga and coursed master’s degrees in both Audiovisual Translation (at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Language teaching (at Pablo de Olavide University). Her main research fields include audiovisual translation and didactics on translation and foreign language teaching. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at University of Málaga, conducting a project about how song translation is taught at universities and its repercussions in translation and interpreting studies. She has worked as an audiovisual translator (mainly on subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing) and recently, she has been teaching at UNED (National Distance Education University) and University of Málaga, among others.

RAÚL LARA holds a degree in Dramatic Art from the ESAD of Murcia. After finishing his studies he moved to Madrid and began working in theatre and advertising while continuing to train in acting for the camera, singing and dance, with teachers such as John Strasberg and Mark Wakeling. Meanwhile, he had the opportunity to start his career as a dubbing actor. Since last April 2023, he is the president of ADOMA (Union of Dubbing Artists of Madrid), a job which he makes compatible/combines with his acting profession.

MASUMI MUTSUDA is a dubbing actor, advertising announcer, and computer engineer. He made his debut as a voice actor playing Haley Joel Osment in Forrest Gump and combined his studies with dubbing and advertising narration until graduating as an engineer. At that point, he focused almost entirely on his artistic career, also engaging in the founding of startups such as Itnig, Quipu, or Factorial along with other university colleagues. Some of his most memorable roles as a child include Anakin in Star Wars Episode I, Gus in Recess, and he regularly dubs actors such as Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Joe Alwyn (The Favourite), or Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter in Catalan, Miracle Workers). In 2019, he co-founded the dubbing artists' union DUB (Doblatge Unida de Barcelona) with other colleagues, where he has since served as General Secretary.

JUAN PALACIOS is a musician, actor, and dubbing director. He has directed the songs for series such as The Simpsons, Futurama, The Curse of Molly McGee, Hamster and Gretel, SpongeBob SquarePants... and for movies such as Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Wendy, Bob's Burgers: The Movie... As an actor, he has provided the voice for Harvey Guillén in Wish, Paul Mescal in Normal People, Craig Roberts in Sleepless Nights, or Alex Hirsch (Hooty) in Owl House. Over the past year, he has also directed the series Pluto, Veronika, Little Baby Bum, and Dee and her Friends in the Land of Oz. Additionally, he is a session drummer for the bands Perfect Smile and Judas Resurrection, as well as the composer of the rock opera Alborea.

MIRIAN SOLEDAD TRIGUEROS-DE-LA-FUENTE, after completing her English Studies degree at the University of Valladolid in 2014, took a Master's degree in Teaching for Secondary Schools, Vocational Training and Language Schools. Subsequently, she worked as an English teacher in various secondary schools. Since 2018, she has been teaching medical English to university students while developing her academic professional profile. In 2019, she completed an online Master's degree in Specialized Translation Studies (EN/FR/DE/ES) at the University of Córdoba due to her interest in languages and cultures. She also has a musical background, having trained in double bass and choir at the Palencia Conservatory. She also has experience as a musician and singer. Currently, her PhD research at the University of Córdoba focuses on the themes of translation, culture, and music, bringing together all of her interests and expertise. In addition, her research interests encompass composition, musical creation, and the adaptation and translation of songs. She has already published some of her research results in various book chapters entitled "Translating librettos to be interpreted", "The case of Polly: two sides of opera translation" or "Music self-reference and music translation".
