In this section, we review those events organized by the school and other activities in which we have collaborated with various organizations.

HISPATAV: III CONGRESO HISPANOAMERICANO DE TRADUCCIÓN AUDIOVISUAL

November 6-8, 2024, at Udima (Madrid)

For this edition, HispaTAV moved to Madrid and was held at Udima's campus. Our coordinator, Nicholas Saunders, delivered the lecture "The Challenge of Fidelity in Musical Translation for Dubbing," as well as a workshop on song adaptation during the opening day.

LYRICS & CRAFTS: I INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON SONG DUBBING AND TRANSLATION FOR MUSICAL THEATRE

May 10-12, 2024 (online)

This is the only international congress dedicated to musical translation and adaptation. In this first edition, professionals and academics from various countries participated, and roundtable discussions were organized with professional associations. The second edition will take place in May 2025. Check out the program for this first edition here.

ATELIER D'ADAPTATION MUSICALE

November 10, 2023, at Jean Jaurès University (Toulouse)

Iñaki Torre and Nicholas Saunders conducted this first musical adaptation workshop in French for the students of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The workshop consisted of a theoretical first part, where the fundamentals of musical adaptation were reviewed, followed by a practical session.

JORNADA DEL TEXTO A LA VOZ, II EDICIÓN

June 24, 2023, at Espacio Ronda (Madrid)

In this edition, we once again shared the work carried out in our courses: our song dubbing students performed the songs adapted by our musical adaptation students, and the dubbing students presented the texts translated by our audiovisual translation students.

PARTICIPATION IN ENETI XX, ORGANIZED BY AETI

April 28, 2023, at the University of Salamanca

Marc Gómez Domènech delivered the lecture "Song Adaptation for Musical Theater, in which he explained how he approaches his work using examples from musicals adapted by him: Golfus de Roma, The Bridges of Madison County, Rent, and more.

I COLOQUIO TRADARTUM

February 17, 2023, at the University of Murcia

Nicholas Saunders inaugurated the first edition of the TradArtum Colloquium, organized by Paula Cifuentes-Férez, with the workshop "Song Adaptation and the Challenges It Poses".

Nicholas Saunders conducted this workshop on song translation and adaptation, jointly organized by the student associations AETI and La Jerónima.

JORNADA DEL TEXTO A LA VOZ

June 11, 2022, at Espacio Ronda (Madrid)

This edition focused on the work carried out by our teams of translation and song dubbing students, who collaborated in preparing complete songs for dubbing, which they performed live. The collaborators for this occasion were Eduardo Gutiérrez, María Ovelar, Reyes Bermejo, Ángel Fernández Sebastián, Rodri Martín, and Araceli Lavado.

PARTICIPATION IN ENETI XIX, ORGANIZED BY AETI

May 29, 2022, at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid

ENETI is the National Meeting of Translation and Interpreting Students. In this edition, the School participated with the lecture Be Our Guest! The Translation of Titles in Musical Films, presented by María Ovelar and Ángel Fernández Sebastián. Erik Cruz and Araceli Lavado participated by dubbing live several songs.

PARTICIPATION IN TRADICAN 2022, ORGANIZED BY AETI-ULPGC

March 25, 2022, at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Ángel Fernández Sebastián and María Ovelar delivered their lecture Raiders of the Lost Monosyllable as part of the V Canary Islands Conference on Translation and Interpreting. They explored one of the challenges in adapting songs from English to Spanish: the abundance of monosyllables in one language and their lack in the other.

DEL TEXTO A LA VOZ, I EDICIÓN

July 17-18, 2021, at the Ayre Hotel in Córdoba

Eduardo Gutiérrez and Rodri Martín traveled to Córdoba, along with our team, to conduct a series of workshops over an entire weekend in a stunning setting. The workshops covered dubbing, sound fiction, and audiobooks, culminating in a live performance of the work prepared by the students.

EXPRÉSATE EN DOBLAJE, II EDICIÓN

June 20, 2021, at Espacio Ronda (Madrid)

In this edition, in addition to further exploring the dubbing process and sharing the work done in the courses, we introduced our attendees to the concept of match ((when the spoken and sung voices are provided by different professionals), and we had live performances by Erik Cruz and Cani González.

EXPRÉSATE EN DOBLAJE, I EDICIÓN

November 14, 2020, at Espacio Ronda (Madrid)

As part of our comprehensive project, in this first edition of Exprésate en Doblaje, we took a step further, and our students dubbed live the takes that had been translated and adapted by the students of our translation and adaptation for dubbing course. The entire process was carried out under the supervision of Reyes Bermejo and Eduardo Gutiérrez.

I JORNADA VIRTUAL DE DOBLAJE DE CANCIONES

May 23, 2020 (online)

The pandemic introduced us to the online format, and in this event, we took a chronological journey through Disney's discography, featuring some of the original voices from the films: Yolanda de las Heras (Snow White), Cani González (Cinderella), Sol Pilas (Esmeralda), Manu Pilas (Simba), Erik Cruz (Kristoff), and more.

PROYECTO DOBLAJE, II EDICIÓN

June 8, 2019, at Universonoro (Madrid)

This edition was the first in which we included dialogue dubbing workshops, taught by Eduardo Gutiérrez and Rodri Martín. We had live performances from our students, who performed the song they prepared as part of our Advanced Song Dubbing Course. Maisa Hens, Cani González, and María Ovelar also joined the live performance.

PROYECTO DOBLAJE, I EDICIÓN

June 2, 2018, at Café Berlín in Madrid

Proyecto Doblaje brought together professionals from all areas: translators (M.ª José Aguirre de Cárcer and Ángel Fernández Sebastián), voice actors (Claudio Serrano), directors and adaptors (Eduardo Gutiérrez), music directors (María Ovelar), and more. We had live performances by Cani González, Araceli Lavado, Miguel Morant, and others.

EL DOBLAJE DE CANCIONES EN ESPAÑA, II EDICIÓN

October 21, 2017, at Torre Ombú (Madrid)

This second edition also hosted our first song dubbing workshop, where participants performed live excerpts they had prepared as part of the event. We discussed musical translation and adaptation, as well as how songs are recorded in the studio. Once again, we featured the original voices from Disney films.

EL DOBLAJE DE CANCIONES EN ESPAÑA, I EDICIÓN

June 3, 2017, at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid

In our first song dubbing event, we brought together professionals from all areas (directors, translators, adaptors, and singers) to analyze the complete process of dubbing a musical film. We featured live performances by Sol Pilas (Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Miguel Morant (Aladdin in the film of the same name), and others.
