SONG ADAPTOR
SABINE RUFLAIR studied translating as well as singing, acting and dancing - and then combined her experience to become a musical theatre translator with a focus on son adaptation.
Her translations include Come from Away, The Who's Tommy, Jane Eyre, The King and I as well as Sondheim's Merry We Roll Along (together with Jana Mischke). She also wrote the German lyrics for the musicals Once, Doctor Zhivago, Little Women and The Toxic Avenger. From 2018 to 2021, she worked as Translation Supervisor for Stage Entertainment for the English to German adaptation processes of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical, Bat Out of Hell, Cirque du Soleil Paramour, Pretty Woman and Hamilton.
Additionally, she has a strong background in theatre production, from her roots as a production intern at Tony Award winning Denver Center Theater Company, USA, via many years as assistant director for major European cultural events like RUHR.2010 0r Nibelungen Festival Worms to her job as Development Manager in the international Creative Development Department at Stage Entertainment Germany.
Recently, she has begun teaching musical theatre translation at schools and universities and published a number of articles on different aspects of the matter.
